December Is the Perfect Time to Have Balloon Sinuplasty

Time for Balloon SinuplastyHave you had a miserable year full of headaches, sinus pain, and a stuffy nose because of chronic sinus infections? Don’t let next year be more of the same. Take a look at how having minimally invasive sinus surgery now can relieve your symptoms so you can feel better in the New Year.

What is Balloon Sinuplasty?

The reason you’ve been unable to get relief from your sinus discomfort could be because your sinus opening is too narrow, allowing your sinuses to easily become blocked and infected. Balloon Sinuplasty is an outpatient procedure in which an ENT uses a soft, flexible guidewire to insert a small balloon into the sinus and inflates it to expand the sinus opening. After the doctor deflates and removes the balloon, the sinuses remain open to allow fluid to drain and more air to get through.

Balloon sinuplasty does not require general anesthesia or a hospital stay, and there is less bleeding, scarring, and post-operative pain than with traditional sinus surgery. In fact, it’s very likely that you could be back to holiday shopping and festive parties within two days after the procedure.

Why is December a Good Time for Balloon Sinuplasty?

Winter months in St. Louis tend to be a time when more of us get colds and other viruses since we’re stuck inside more often. Having balloon sinuplasty now would reduce the number of sinus infections because it would open up the sinus passage and allow drainage from those viruses to flow more easily. Here are other reasons to consider having this simple sinus surgery now:

It’s more cost effective. Since it’s the end of the year, you may have already met your insurance deductible. So depending on your health insurance plan, most or all of the procedure would be covered.

You’ll feel better before the holidays. Why put off enjoying this magical season until next year? Getting relief now will allow you to get through the season without the pain and pressure you’ve been dealing with for months.

You won’t miss as much work or school next year. Annoying sinus infection symptoms this year have no doubt kept you home more often than you’d like. You can make a resolution to be more productive in your job or classes in the New Year because you’ll feel better, sleep better, and be there more often.
